DR. KWON, Oh Nam

Oh Nam Kwon is the President of the Korean Federation of Women's Science and Technology Associations and a Professor of Mathematics Education at Seoul National University. She joined SNU in 2003 after a decade at Ewha Womans University and has since led over 30 research grants and published around 150 articles in mathematics and mathematics education. She serves on editorial boards of leading journals such as Education Studies in Mathematics, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, and Advances in Mathematics Education. Her contributions extend to national and international education policy, including roles with the Korean Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation and the OECD/PISA Mathematics Expert Group. She has received several honors, including the Best Teaching Award from SNU and the Svend Pedersen Lecture Award from Stockholm University, where she was the first Asian recipient. She has also served as President of the Korean Society of Mathematics Education and was a jury member for the UNESCO Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013 competition and the Leelavati Prize 2014. As of July 2025, she is President of IGPME and Chair of the 2025 East-Asian Regional Conference on Mathematics Education.
DR. MOON, Aree
WISET (Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology)
Aree Moon, the President of WISET (Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology), is a prominent leader in advancing women’s roles in STEM fields in South Korea. She also serves as a professor at the College of Pharmacy at Duksung Women’s University in Seoul, with a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology from Iowa State University. Her research focuses on cancer biology, particularly breast cancer signaling pathways, and she has authored over 120 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Moon has been recognized with prestigious honors such as the Korean Order of Science and Technology Merit and the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Korea Award. Internationally, she was selected as the first Korean member of the UN 10-member Group for Science and Technology Experts (2024–2025) and chaired the UN STI Forum, highlighting her global influence in science and technology policy. Under her leadership, WISET continues to expand its mission through education, mentoring, and research support programs for women in STEM.
